Meister: ‘We are Going Where the Fans are’
December 11, 2009
Jacob Meister, Democratic candidate for the United States Senate, announced Friday that he will take his jobs message to one of the most engaged and lively audiences this weekend: Bears fans.
“Sundays mean football,” Meister said. “Some candidates have blanketed TV with more spots than on a Dalmatian. But we are playing it smart and going where the fans are.”
Meister for U.S. Senate will air its 30-second “A Voice for Illinois: Economy” spot during the Chicago Bears-Green Bay Packers game that starts at noon Sunday. The ad will introduce Meister to an estimated 1.2 million viewers throughout the Chicago area, and is expected to air during the first half of the game. The campaign did not stop with the WFLD-FOX buy; it also purchased spots on FOX affiliates in Rockford, Peoria and Champaign.
“This is a statewide campaign and the Chicago Bears have fans throughout Illinois,” Meister said. “Where better on a Sunday afternoon to introduce my candidacy than to voters in the comfort of their own living rooms?”
Meister’s media strategy ensures that fans who mute the network announcers and instead opt for the Bears Network and the 670 SCORE Chicago Sportsradio, will still hear Meister’s message. The campaign bought 60-second spots on both networks that will run through Dec. 18.
Apart from the Bears centric buy, Meister will also air the ad on network and cable TV downstate, beginning Dec. 12 through Dec. 18, including, Peoria-Bloomington, WMBD; Rockford, WTVO, WREX, and WIFR; and Champaign, Springfield and Decatur, WCIA and WAND, and in those same markets on CNN, MSNBC and ESPN. Meister for U.S. Senate spent $90,000 on the mixed media buy.
“Everyday Illinoisans are stretching their dollars to the max, and we have followed suit,” Meister said. “We are reaching them when they are tuned in.”
Meister was the first candidate on network TV last month, when he aired a 60-second spot in Peoria and Champaign. The buy was aligned to the campaign’s opening of its offices in Peoria and Champaign. Meister for U.S. Senate is the only campaign to have offices throughout the state. At six and counting, Meister operates his headquarters out of his office in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood, and has additional offices in Wheeling, Aurora, Champaign, Peoria and Homewood.
Script for “A Voice for Illinois: Economy”: “I’m Jacob Meister Democrat for United States Senate. Although I’m not a politician, I know how to transform government and make it work for the people of Illinois. Let’s stop exporting jobs and punish companies that do. I’ve saved workers pensions and fought health insurance companies that refused to pay valid claims. I know how to create new, sustainable, and secure jobs.
