Welcoming President, Candidates to the Jobs Discussion

December 9, 2009

Jacob Meister, Democratic candidate for the United States Senate, welcomed President Obama’s recent proposal to create sustainable jobs for working Americans, and reiterated his long-held position that creating jobs is the best way to revive the economy.

“Americans don’t need an economist to tell them that putting people back to work should be our foremost priority,” Meister said. “On behalf of 15 million unemployed Americans, I’d like welcome my fellow candidates to the job discussion and congratulate the President for appropriately shifting the country’s focus to policies and programs that create jobs and rebuild the economy.”

Meister applauded the President’s attention to small businesses, inclusion of infrastructure projects and intent to restore consumer spending through energy incentives and other expenditures that will lower Americans household costs while making their homes more energy efficient and get them spending again. He added that the President’s plans help address more than one problem at a time, which is a truly effective way to solve serious challenges.

Meister’s economic platform – 20/20 Vision - focuses on improving our education system to better prepare students for employment and creates secure domestic jobs that can’t be shipped overseas. Meister’s job creation plan also capitalizes on emerging research, development and manufacturing industries of the future: alternative energies, bio-technology and new infrastructure technology.

“If we want the economy to grow, consumers need to spend money. That’s not an option for the 10 percent of Americans who can’t spend money when they are out of work,” Meister said. “By implementing these programs we are creating jobs and economic opportunities, preserving the environment and cutting working families’ energy costs – this is a win-win situation, which is long overdue but welcome, nonetheless.”
