Meister supports AMA vote on 'don't ask, don't tell'
November 11, 2009
Jacob Meister, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Illinois, congratulated the American Medical Association on its Tuesday, Nov. 10 vote to oppose the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, and its statement that gay marriage bans contribute to health disparities.
Meister, the first openly gay candidate for U.S. Senate, said the AMA’s attack of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy as a health issue sheds new light on the problematic policy.
“If we are committed to quality health care in this country, then we must remove barriers that keep patients from being open and honest with their health-care providers,” Meister said.
He agrees with doctors who think a law which makes people lie to their physicians is a bad law. For Meister’s position on health care and other issues he is addressing in his campaign, go to www.MeisterForSenate.com.
